Ideas Competition for the management of the margins of Nervion river in Llodio (Álava)
Llodio is a linear town along the Nervion river, located between mountains and the railway line. It is characterized by both residential and industrial growth over the past twenty years. This proposal aims to bring the river back as a key element of a urban landscape neglected due to aggressive interventions along its banks (industry, high buildings, water inaccessibility…). New residential areas are suggested and it is proposed to treat the river margins not only as a mere river, but also as a way of establishing a relationship between the new residential areas and parks with river itself. River water can be accessed through platforms at different heights in summer, thereby forming riverside walks that will become flooded in stages, making the use and landscape of the river banks vary depending on the river flow. Additionally, a perpendicular tour embraces public spaces that enhance the heart of Llodio..
