Ideas Competition for Football Fields. Plan 2000.
The scale of the building is one of the most special aspects of this project . When entering the field , the top part of the stands is at eye-level. Viewers can watch the game almost from the perspective of the player himself. To achieve this, bury the whole ensemble consisting of changing rooms, café , shops and facilities. We opt for a very elongated strip split into two so that viewers can be near the field. The building is externally defined by two concrete slabs that intersect but do not touch. One is the stand slab, which appears to be up in the air, the other one is a precast concrete slab emerging from the ground and used as edge in all the buried spaces. The metal deck was made to be as light as possible. The Inside space created is enveloping, really special. The concrete bends and seems to disappear into the light. The top glass creates the feeling of a neverending space. During this project I learnt a lot from my colleague Mario Di Felice.
