Ideas Competition for the Expansion of the City Hall of Mugardos, La Coruña
“Any object, shape … having survived to the present day, should also be considered as belonging to our time, to the present.” Enric Miralles.
What is the impact of the extension of a building?
What happens when an existing element adopts a new function?
How must the new and the old relate to each other?
After the old body there arises a new one, a prism which, as if it were a net, captures the space, defines uses and provides a public dimension to the expansion. The facade is the city’s memory. Inside the building we act with total freedom. We preserve a flat geometry with openings which folds and dies out upon arrival at the garden.
