Rehabilitation of the Old Semaphore Station of Estaca de Vares to transform it into a Hotel
The semaphore station of Estaca de Bares is located at a privileged location that dominates the landscape for miles around. Buildings interact with the immediate environment and from within the vastness of the territory can be felt. The windows become authentic pictures and the galleries protect us, letting us enjoy nature at the same time. The station is now “Hotel de Montaña”, its inner strength is enhanced with wide spaces in the restaurant as well as in the rooms. The simple and rational use of traditional materials enhances the image of the buildings, making them more welcoming and increase the primitive feeling when entering the place. The fact that we could choose all the furniture and even design some of it helped create a welcoming atmosphere , as we expected. In the surrounding area we can find a number of large-sized rocks that have been used as viewpoints . We have built several paths made of block for people to climb or sit on the rocks to enjoy and feel nature’s power. Surveyor Pablo Reboredo’s rehabilitation experience and the magnificent work of the As Pontes Maciñeira carpentry have been of key importance.
